The 2024 GLE has undergone significant updates, while the 2023 XC90 maintains its longstanding design with some new technological additions. Both models, having been introduced in 2020 and 2016 respectively, are top sellers in the US; the GLE being the top-selling Mercedes and the XC90 following closely behind the XC60 in Volvo's sales. Notably, neither are phasing out gas engines. Instead, they utilize mild hybrid systems, pairing gas engines with an electric motor powered by a 48-volt battery. Unlike conventional hybrids, these mild hybrids don't run solely on electric power. Both SUVs offer similar power, either from a 3-liter turbocharged inline-6 or a 2-liter turbocharged and electrically supercharged inline-4.
