2025 BMW 7-Series
Price: $98.475–$123.575

Overview

Blending old-school elegance with modern German technology, the 2025 BMW 7-series looks like a boxy throwback on the outside but is flush with standard high-end amenities and leading-edge tech on the inside. The 7-series' extensive list of luxury equipment includes leather or optional cashmere upholstery, an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system (audiophiles can upgrade to a 36-speaker setup), and available electrically powered doors that close at the touch of a button—like those on a Rolls-Royce. The seats are supremely comfortable, and the optional Executive and Luxury Rear Seating packages add heat, ventilation, and massage for each passenger. An available 31-inch theater screen with 8K resolution pops down from the ceiling for gaming or streaming videos so rear-seat occupants never have to separate from their digital life. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, onboard navigation, and a crystal-clear 14.9-inch center touchscreen infotainment display are standard. The 7-series' standard air suspension adds to the sybaritic comfort, providing a blissfully smooth ride commensurate with the price tag. The 2025 BMW 7-series can be had with either of three powertrain options: a turbocharged inline-six, a plug-in hybrid, or a massively powerful twin-turbo V-8–each satisfying in its own flavor. Looking for an electric luxury car that can pamper you as comprehensively as a 7-series? BMW makes an EV version of the 7-series called i7, which we review separately. As one of our favorites in its segment, the BMW 7-series has earned a spot on our Editors’ Choice list for 2025.

What's New for 2025?

Changes to the 2025 BMW 7-series are mainly on the infotainment and automation side. BMW says its newest iDrive operating system makes it easier to use Apple’s Siri voice assistant, eschewing the need to tap the push-to-talk button. Highway Assistant, BMW’s optional hands-free driving mode, now suggests a lane change and allows the driver to agree to such a maneuver simply by looking in the side view mirror corresponding with the suggested direction.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

A 375-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is standard—models with this engine are designated 740i—and is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system; rear-wheel drive is standard with this setup but all-wheel drive—which BMW calls xDrive—is optional. A plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive is available too and is powered by a 483-hp powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and an electric motor. The top-dog 760i xDrive is powered by a 536-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 and comes standard with all-wheel drive; this engine also uses a 48-volt hybrid system. We were able to sample the 760i xDrive and noted its silky operation as well as muscle-car acceleration. The 7-series comes standard with an air suspension, and BMW has incorporated a rear-wheel steering system and adaptive dampers into the chassis as well. As a result, the car feels more agile than its size would suggest but remains more focused on comfort than athleticism.
