The Volkswagen Multivan is priced from £50,633 (~$66,100 / €57,600) and tops out at £68,023 (~$88,800 / €77,300). With discounts applied, prices start at £49,911 (~$65,200 / €56,700), or around £42,300 (~$55,200 / €48,100) for used examples. Monthly finance payments begin at roughly £585 (~$765 / €665).

This is a spacious, highly practical MPV offered in two body lengths. Despite its generous proportions, it’s easy to manoeuvre thanks to light, accurate steering and a smooth automatic transmission. Visibility is excellent due to slim front pillars and large mirrors, although the centre passenger seat can partially obstruct the rear view.

Ride comfort is generally composed. When unladen, the suspension can feel firm, but with passengers and luggage onboard it absorbs bumps impressively well. In urban driving, the plug-in hybrid is a standout choice, providing 20–25 miles (32–40 km) of all-electric range and strong performance for a vehicle of this size.

On the motorway, slight wind noise from the large door mirrors doesn’t disturb the otherwise calm, refined cabin. Lower-powered engines sound a bit gruff under hard acceleration but quieten at cruising speeds. Diesel units remain the best pick for high-mileage users, though the plug-in hybrid also performs surprisingly well — it’s the quickest version and uses electric coasting to improve efficiency.

Handling is reassuring and predictable. The Multivan feels less cumbersome than the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and on par with the Ford Tourneo Custom, though it’s most enjoyable when driven gently. Adaptive suspension is available, but even in “Sport” there’s noticeable body roll. Steering, however, is impressively responsive for such a large vehicle.

Inside, the Multivan seats seven in a 2-2-3 configuration, giving up one seat compared with rivals that offer up to nine. Still, the cabin is extremely comfortable and cleverly packaged. The front seats offer generous adjustment, twin armrests, and a car-like driving position. Storage solutions include a large glovebox, multi-level door bins, a fold-out centre cubby with cupholders, and either a wireless-charging phone shelf on higher trims or USB-C ports on entry models.

The rear seats slide independently, allowing you to trade legroom for extra cargo space when needed. Five tall adults can sit comfortably, and the Long model adds even more passenger and luggage room. Accessing the third row is easy thanks to sliding and folding middle seats and large side doors. In Style trim, the sliding doors are powered for added convenience.

Rear passengers benefit from a versatile sliding centre console with pop-up tables, extra cupholders, and a large storage drawer. Additional USB-C outlets and fold-out tables on the front seatbacks further enhance practicality, creating a near lounge-like atmosphere on the move.

The tailgate is large, which can complicate loading in tight spaces. Boot capacity is 469 litres in the standard version and 763 litres in the Long model (measured to the roof). For bulky items, sliding the third row forward increases usable space. While the Tourneo Custom and V-Class offer marginally more luggage room, the Multivan’s modular interior layout compensates well.

All in all, the Volkswagen Multivan combines comfort, space, and versatility with unexpectedly polished driving dynamics. It’s an excellent option for families, professional transport, or anyone wanting a premium, practical people carrier with a refined driving experience.
