486. Steam Power Lifts Water into Cromford Canal

Published at : 12 Dec 2025

Whilst in the Derbyshire Dales for the annual ‘Heritage Open Days’ Festival of History and Culture held in September 2025, I visited the Grade II* listed 1849 Leawood Pump House, which pumps water from the River Derwent up into the Cromford Canal using steam power. It’s a pump like no other I’ve seen, watch it in action and find out how much water it can pump.
