A45's turbo-four spices up new-gen AMG GLC (Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic 2024 review)

Published at : 13 Dec 2025

The first AMG version of the new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV ditches the previous 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 for a more powerful engine - the highly strung 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder from the A45 S hatch.

Punching out 310kW and 500Nm (compared to 285kW and 520Nm in the final version of the previous GLC 43 V6), the new four-pot GLC 43 promises superior handling balance and improved fuel efficiency, in combination with an addictively ballsy and barky soundtrack. But does the new GLC 43 have enough drivetrain personality to out-shine its BMW X3 M40i straight-six rival? And does AMG's hi-po four-cylinder actually achieve better fuel consumption?

Chasing Cars’ Tom Baker performs a comprehensive review of the new-gen GLC 43 and discovers that it handles better than ever, sounds great, and may well be preferable to the plug-in GLC 63 AMG flagship.
