Chevy-Powered STUDEBAKER - It Does NOT Want to Live

Published at : 12 Dec 2025

You win some and you lose some, and sometimes you have to know when to quit. We got this 1965 Studebaker four door sedan as a companion to another Studebaker project. It was supposed to just be a parts car, but it was very complete, so I thought we could make something out of it. I found it interesting that the Studebaker had a small block Chevy engine, but apparently that was how it left the factory. After production moved to Canada, Studebaker didn't make its own engines, so it sourced 283ci small block Chevys and added Studebaker branding to the valve covers.

Because it was a small block Chevy, I was convinced I could make it run, but unfortunately, the motor was stuck. That didn't prevent me from trying to unfreeze it and get it spinning again. I tried everything I knew to try. Concoctions of various fluids down the cylinders, removing the heads, fence post breaker bar....nothing worked. But hey, we had fun and luckily didn't waste much money in the process. Just wasted some time. Even though it wasn't a successful project, I figured you guys would enjoy watching us fool with this junker.

Full transparency, this is a compilation of three videos that I produced on the Hot Rod Hoarder YouTube channel a few years ago. I decided to mash them all together into one comprehensive video. We ended up selling this Studebaker, along with a 1964 Studebaker Daytona Wagonaire after losing the battle with two stuck engines.
