A major geopolitical flashpoint is unfolding in the Caribbean after the United States seized a Venezuelan oil tanker carrying 1.9 million barrels of crude near Grenada. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has condemned the action as “criminal naval piracy,” accusing Washington of kidnapping the crew and hijacking a civilian vessel. The move marks the Trump administration’s first major action against a Venezuela-linked tanker since expanding its military presence in the region.
President Trump has also announced upcoming strikes aimed at blocking narcotics trafficking allegedly moving from Venezuela into the US.
