Engine disassembly
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) recently announced a new venture to sell genuine motorsport history to fans. The first item in this endeavor is the last Honda V10 F1 engine Ayrton Senna ever raced.
Engine Details: The specific unit is a Honda RA100E V10 engine, serial number V805. It was used by Senna in the 1990 Formula 1 season, specifically during the warm-up session of the Japanese Grand Prix and the race at the Australian Grand Prix.
Disassembly: This engine, which had been preserved without being disassembled since 1990, was carefully taken apart by HRC's expert mechanics. A documentary-style video was released detailing the full teardown, including the dismantling of the engine heads, pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft.
The Auction: The disassembled engine is being offered for auction in a beautiful display case containing all its parts. The auction will take place on August 15 in Carmel, California, at the Bonhams Quail Auction.
Senna's Last Honda NSX (The Road Car)
As for the famous red Honda NSX that Ayrton Senna owned and drove, it has not been disassembled. It is a highly-prized piece of automotive history and has been owned by a private collector.
Vehicle Details: This is a red 1991 Honda NSX that Senna kept at his home in Portugal. It is the most well-known of the NSXs he owned and was featured in the 1992 documentary Racing is in my Blood.
Current Status: The car was most recently put up for sale in April 2024 by its owner, Robert McFagan, who had acquired it in 2013. The car was listed on Auto Trader for £500,000, and there is no public information to suggest it has been disassembled or restored in a way that would require a full teardown. Instead, it is valued for its originality and history.
